Watt Thread is run by five people who have all, at some point, argued with a utility company over a misread meter. We started this in 2026 because most energy-saving advice skips the arithmetic: what does it actually cost, what does it actually save, and when do you break even.

Our method is straightforward. We buy or borrow the hardware, install it where possible, and log data for weeks or months before publishing. For tariffs and contracts, we build spreadsheet models using real usage profiles—ours and readers'—rather than supplier marketing materials. We don't take referral fees from energy companies or insulation installers, and we disclose any free review units.
